ISLAMABAD, September 3 (INP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has said that the May 9 riots were aimed at triggering civil war in Pakistan.

He made the remarks in an interview with a private TV channel on Sunday.

Kakar said that the government is working on a plan to improve the energy conservation system in the country. He appealed to the nation to help the government in implementing this plan.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need to avoid extreme social and economic attitudes for the betterment of society.

He said that the government is working to improve the economic and social net of the country, which would be beneficial for the middle and underprivileged class.

Kakar categorically refuted the impression that he is trying to prolong his stay as the caretaker prime minister. He said that he will never violate the law of the land.

He highlighted the importance of independent judiciary in a state and said that the government will fully enforce the decision of the higher judiciary regarding the conduct of elections.

Kakar also clarified the government’s policy against terrorism, saying that the state has both negotiation and force tools to deal with banned organizations.

He regretted that the rushed withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan has enhanced the power of terrorists to fight, which has resulted in a surge of terrorist activities in Pakistan.

Terming the May 9 incident as violent, Kakar said that this kind of manipulation is not acceptable in any form of the government. He said that due process of law will be implemented against all those who took the law in their hands in this incident.

To a question regarding the Cipher issue, Kakar said that this matter is sub-judice and the best judicial minds will deliberate on it.

Regarding the restoration of relations with India, the Prime Minister said that the decision to this effect should be made by the Indian polity and consciousness, and the world will find Pakistan as a responsible partner.
